Zurich’s Second Centre
“The Circle” will be a destination in itself at Zurich Airport. Just steps away from the terminal buildings, the new, architecturally striking complex will buzz with life and services. The flair of an international trading centre at its core, “The Circle” will become the focal point for business and lifestyle, unfolding in various modules from 2020 on; represented by brands, medicine, education, culture, entertainment, hotels and conventions. This unique synergy will make “The Circle” a new premium location with strong links to Zurich and the world.
“The Circle” lies at the heart of Zurich’s air transportation hub and will have a clear identity of its own. Such an attractive new address will tempt passengers, airport employees and visitors and will boost the airport’s role as an important centre for the broader Zurich economic area. Offering the vigour of an international trading centre and a big city beat, “The Circle” will be a place to visit and linger. However it will be quieter and more relaxed than a conventional shopping centre, more cosmopolitan and atmospheric than your average airport, and more exclusive than a run-of-the-mill events centre, attracting upmarket repeat visitors.
Covering 180,000 square metres of useable space, “The Circle” will present a host of activities under one roof, with synergies between them all. It will offer two Hyatt hotels, Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport The Circle and Hyatt Place Zurich Airport/The Circle, The Circle Convention Centre and top international brands and companies. Featuring seven modules, each focused on a vibrant, high-growth market, lie at “The Circle”’s core: a medical centre and well planned, state-of-the-art office space, plus plenty of other attractions, from art and culture to food and entertainment, as well as educational activities and opportunities for learning.
“The Circle” has an individual and striking architectural identity. Externally, it echoes the shapes and design language of the airport, creating a harmonised theme. Internally, it is designed to give the impression of a small scale, high-class city centre. Sustainable construction and operation is a matter of course for “The Circle”. The complex will be certified by the green building certification Programme LEED Platinum®. The park will become the recreational area for the entire region. The design by internationally renowned Japanese architect Riken Yamamoto organises the space so that the venue opens up towards the park. Along its alleys and squares, a single main level makes orientation intuitive and easy, with uncomplicated access to all the services and the airport itself is easily reachable via various routes. The uncluttered architecture of the upper levels allows unhindered views upwards to the sky, while all public areas are designed to convey the impression of being outdoors. The main square and alleys are covered with a metal-glass structure for protection from the elements and the facades within the alleys are designed to create individualism for retail tenants and reinforce each brand’s identity.
Linking to Zurich, Switzerland and the world, discover “The Circle”, an exciting mix of business and lifestyle with a striking address and it’s own architectural identity.
